Annadaatha

{solidarity with farmers}

…………

South Asian Design Educators Alliance (SADEA) and Design for Peace and Justice’s Posters for Peace in the Indian Socio-cultural Context.

Annadaatha (provider of food), draws inspiration from the Kannada poem "Neeghila Yogi" by Kuvempu, a revered poet and recipient of the Padma Vibhushan and Jnanpith awards. In this poem, Kuvempu honors farmers as yogis, portraying their unwavering commitment to nourishing the global population as a sacred act of worship. India, a predominantly agrarian country, has seen its agricultural communities overshadowed by the rapid growth of its technological economy. My ancestors were farmers, and though I am privileged, I have witnessed firsthand the struggles they face. Their hard work, dedication, and sacrifice are often overlooked, and this poster is a reflection of my deep respect for their labor and a call for solidarity with all farmers recognizing their essential role and the challenges they face in the pursuit of hope, dignity of labor, empathy, and peace.
